On 28 March, 2017 the International Congress «Kyiv Region Education in European Prospective» took place in Brovary city (Kyiv region)

The event was attended by Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine; Vasyl Kremen,President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Oleksandr Gorgan, Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration; Vira Rohova, Director of the Department of Education and Science of Kyiv Regional State Administration; Ihor Sapozhko, Mayor of Brovary city. Representatives of foreign delegations participated in the event. They were:  expert of the Council of Europe, co-chairman of the Center for International Educational Projects in Zurich Pedagogical University Rolf Gollob; Deputy Director of the US Peace Corps in Ukraine Pilar Robledo; Director of Israeli Cultural Center at the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine Olha Polishchuk; Director of the The Confucius Institute at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University Sung Ke Wen; Founder and president of global Outreach Charter Academy Serhiy Soroka;  President of the University of Economics in Bydgoszcz, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Bydgoszcz, President of Economic Council Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Chairman of the Regional Olympic Council in Bydgoszcz, Co-organizer of city tourist information center Krzysztof Sikora; Head of “Center School of Management” Faculty in Karlovskiy Pedagogical University, Czech Republic, Associate Professor Vaclav Trojan; Director of “Bratislava” basic school in Prague, teacher of the Centre of school management Irji Trunda.

Oleksandr Gorgan, Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration revealed the features and outlined real achievements of the educational system of Kyiv Region and development prospects in the educational sector. He also emphasized the importance of implementation of the competence approach at the regional educational establishments and indicated that effective education in the region is considered as the foundation of its social and economic growth.

Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine greeted the participants of the meeting and emphasized the challenges facing the Ukrainian society today and those that and modern youth will face in the future. So, the formation of the key competences identified in the concept of a new school, the development of a personality that is capable for critical thinking, able to act creatively, to decide  and to take responsibility, to change the world innovatively, are the factors that will ensure  the life success of every young person and the society in general.

After the plenary session the participants of the Congress took part at the panel discussions: space of educational opportunities, international programs and projects; initiatives in the social and economic development of  Kyiv region; social and cultural development of competencies at the secondary schools; Natural Sciences and Mathematics Education. The international trends such as regional priorities; the successful educational practices of extracurricular training; implementation of international educational programs at high and vocational education were discussed.

The panel discussion on the topic: ” Educational opportunities environment. International programmes and projects”, moderated by Oleksandr Zabolotnyy, head of Skvyra department of education was the most popular among the participants. During the event such topics were discussed:

̶ “The development of civic competencies in Ukraine on the basis of systematic trainings for civil servants, principals and teachers of secondary schools”. The project “DOCCU” was presented  by Rolf Gollob. The project started in Kyiv region and today it brings together managers and educators from the eight regions of Ukraine and it is a platform for the development of civic competencies in the New Ukrainian school.

̶ “Management in the society of knowledge. The position and role of a director in a modern school”.

̶ “American project “School of choice”.

̶ “Development of professional competencies of teachers foreign language in the system of postgraduate education”.

̶ “Inclusion: European trends and the Czech experience”.

̶ “Implementation of the experimental activities on media literacy and media education in Ukraine”.

The theme of the panel discussion “Development of social and cultural competencies at secondary schools”, which was moderated by Larysa Kaban, senior lecturer of the Department of management, preschool and elementary education of  the Academy of  In-Service Education, brought together a large number of the participants. The discussion focused on the following issues:

̶ implementation of «Go Camps» and  «GoCamp After School» projects.  Development of summer language camps and extracurricular foreign language classes at secondary schools.

̶ educational program «eTwinningPlus» in Ukraine and Kyiv region:  experience and perspectives;

̶ organization and conducting of the summer language camps and after-school language classes with intensive study of foreign languages;

̶ the effectiveness of foreign language teaching by native speakers at secondary schools of Kyiv region;

̶ development of the sociocultural competence in the process of minority language teaching at Kyiv region schools.

Project coordinators, Peace Corps volunteers in Ukraine shared their experience on the issues of international programs realization. Among them were heads and teachers of  secondary schools, where international educational projects and programs are being implemented successfully, Bulgarian and Polish languages teachers of  the secondary specialized school for Slavic languages.

The discussion as for international trends and  regional priorities of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Education was moderated by Leonid Lipchevsky, head of the department methodology of teaching mathematics, physics and astronomy at the Academy of  In-Service Education. The participants discussed the issues:

̶  development of  the mathematical and digital competencies of students and teachers;

̶  implementation of  the Estonian-Ukrainian project “Miksike in Ukraine” at  secondary schools;

̶  educational videos creation using the Camtasia Studio.
